Will pebbles cause a crash?

by Krystina
(Hilton Head)

My brother is trying to talk me out of buying a ninja 250 becuase he believes that if I'm driving along and hit even a little rock, I'll skid and fall. Of course this has begun to scare me a little because im not sure if he's right or not! Any experienced riders out there that can say otherwise?

ninja 250

Hi krystina,

I am not an experinced ridder but I do have a ninja250 which i got a few months ago its a nice begginers bike i find it really confortable. But to answer your question i may not know much about it but it just doesnt sound accurate that your brother says you will skid if you go over a pice of gravel. I have gone over a few rocks that is at low speeds (20-40mph) and the bike does not skid.
I think your brother might just be worried about you ridding a bike and tryed to scare you off it by saying that.

But if you really want to ride, dont let nobody tlk you out of it. Try to go take the MSF basic ridding course and dont get discouraged. Good luck!

Just keep your speed down. I've seen those kind of bikes fly by at 120 mph and faster and I can see if you hit anything at that speed you could have a problem. Respect the road and your bike and your life. Take MSF course

Maybe at 90 mph.

Maybe if you're really speeding. Because everything is worse at faster speeds.

But seriously, unless you're doing something stupid, that is a ridiculous comment. There are pebbles and crap on every road out there. Take the MSF course, they teach you how to deal with some of the road debris.

Also, after you take the course, and get your license, test drive as many as you can talk the dealer into. Every bike rides differently. Go with what YOU feel comfortable with. Not with whatever someone else tries to talk you into or out of.

what?

ask your brother why he doesn't want you to ride.

That's insane reasoning, and untrue!

When you hit the pebble or gravel, just keep steady and calm and you'll be fine.

Huh?

If that were true, how do people manage to live on gravel roads and still ride!? Silly. Take the MSF course. I've been riding for about 8-9 years now and I'm still skittish about riding on gravel or dirt roads, however, even I have managed it a few times.

Have fun and keep the rubber on the road!

silly

that's a pretty silly comment. Just do a test ride, and see how you feel about the bike. Previous comment is right, take the safety course if you haven't done so.
