This is one badd-ass ride with 318 hairpin turns in only 11 miles of highway. Awesome ride that everyone should make a trip to a least once. Look out though, it's addicting!

Love These Roads

*** FYI There has been a rock slide on the TN side of the dragon. NC and TN have opened the dragon up but only on the NC side. The rock slide is still being cleared but NC and TN have worked it out where NC will take all the emergency calls and a few TN cops will be posted around up there. The best part of this is that there is very little traffic on the dragon at the moment because transfer trucks cant drive thru so the only cars you see on it are the photographers and a few car groups. The rock slide has almost made the road even better. No more getting stuck behind a SUV hauling 3 canoes along with a car trailer, or semi trucks cutting both lanes because the turns are too tight.

This is a great road to ride on even if your just a passenger. But I can't say I would recommend it for new riders. I grew up about an hour away from it and my boyfriend and his friends travel 12 hours all the way from Michigan just to ride it for a weekend... There is a resort(deals gap) right on the North Carolina side of the dragon so you don't have to wake up early just to be there by a certain time if your participating in a group ride for the day. Also all the other roads around it are amazing as well.

Riding the Dragon

I agree with you it is one awesome road. Being a novice rider I probably had no business attempting this, but who knows I may never make it back that way again. When it comes to riding I take every opportunity that comes along.

Before attempting this road please do some research about the road and what to expect from other motorcyclists, some people just live way to close to edge, from cars and especially from large trucks.

I hope to return again next year to ride it again and I also want to ride the Skyway next time!
