suzuki 800cc marauder problem

what is causing my 1998 Suzuki 800cc marauder motorcycle's engine to shut down by itself w during while riding? this occurs after I've traveled 6 to 10 miles. I wait 15 minutes, and the engine starts again until I go another 6 to 10 miles. its as though I am hitting the emergency shut off switch.
