Road King New Rider

Hello everyone and help!!!

My wonderful husband bought me a Road King Classic and I am having trouble planting my feet on the ground therefore when I stop it turns over. I wore some heels yesterday to ride so I could plant my feet but that was just more added clumsiness for me. The bike is very heavy but I think my problem is height. The seat height is 26.9 inches and the seat is very wide. He is going to have the bike lowered but does anyone have any other suggestions??? I really love that bike and did good driving it for my first time but the stopping it is difficult. I am 5'4".

Anyone's advice is greatly appreciated!!!

THANKS!!!

Lower the Seat
by: Anonymous

Harley has a lowering kit. I wouldn't recommend lowering it more than 3/4 inch or suspension and ride ain't gonna be worth much. Also look at a new seat. With lowering it and a new seat it should work out for you. My bike is lowered 3/4 inch with Corbin seat (Softtail Deluxe).

I noticed when sitting on several of the Harley's that it felt like straddling a horse.

Do Lower It
by: Sassy2731

I'm 5'2" and ride a Road King myself, so I do know it can be lowered if it is done correctly you won't have any problems and you will love your bike then. You have 2 inches on me too! I have the corbin seat which is a big help too. My riding boots have a very thick sole and gives me another inch or so also. I was told my Road King with leather bags could not be lowered, but my hubby designed a special lowering kit just for my bike with the leather bags. I ride it with no problem now. With it lowered I am more able to handle the bike. Not sure what the person in the other comment is trying to say, but mine handles perfectly. Where are you located? We have a shop and can lower the bike for you just as we did mine. Send me an email at sassy2731@comcast.net and I'll give you our shop number to call and talk to my hubby about lowering your Road King. It is just right for me too and yours will be great riding for you as well.

Don't Lower It
by: Tom

The ground clearance on a Road King is insufficient to allow any significant lowering without compromising turning ability. Look, instead to making the seat narrower, or perhaps a Corbin Gunfighter solo saddle. The 26.5 inch seat height is mainly an ad gimmick, as the width of the seat gives the proportion of a much taller bike. Have your husband take the stock seat off completely and put some towels on the frame. Try sitting on the bike without the seat, you will be amazed.
