auction ends tuesday
by: Anonymous

I am a member of an auction sight out of Kansas City. They have a 1977 Yamaha RD 400 that has actual honest to God 48 miles on it.Like you said even though it looks brand new anything that used to be soft and pliable would now be hard and crumbly.
If there is anyone that would be interested in this I could e-mail you the info to the auction sight.I myself am not interested in it but I would rather see a collector get this than some guy buys it for his grandkids to tear up in his back yard on weekends. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
E-mail me and I will get you the auction sight info.

RD400 value
by: Judy

I currently own RDs of various sizes and years, and have owned at least one RD since 1977.

If you're RD is truly a "10" with that low of mileage and running like new, it is worth about $2500 - $3,000. Of course, it's "worth" whatever another person is willing to pay.

The rarest of the air cooled RDs is the '79 Daytona Special, and those are worth upwards of about $4,000 to $5,000 in mint condition. But the '76 to '78 models are still nice to have, just about 10x more common by the number available each model year in comparison.

Even if your RD has been stored in a totally climate-controlled environment it's entire life, chances are it needs, or will need L & R crankshaft seals, manifolds and other rubber bits replaced imminently to protect the motor from lean condition seizures.

I'm out of town now but can call you in a couple days to discuss your bike if you'd like.

BTW, is it a "French Blue" or "Chappy Red" model? Those were the two colors available for the 1977 model year in the U.S.
