New Female Short Rider

by Sandy
(Union, NJ)

Hi,
I am about 5'1 ft, 114 pounds, 27' inseam.
I learned how to ride on a cafe racer 1974 honda cb450 and now I would like to buy a sportbike.
I LOVE the Ducati Monster 696 but i was told that I cannot lower the suspension, so my only option is to get a low seat.
Is this true? or do you know someone my height taht can ride comfortably the M696?

Update!
by: Sandy

Hi everyone,
Just want to express my joy on the choice I made as for my first bike!
I just got a 2009 Buell Blast which is a great bike!(for someone like me, short and beginner).
Definitely recommend!

Safe ride everyone,
Sandy

You're welcome!

You're welcome! I hope it all works out for you! The Monster's an awesome bike.

If you haven't thought about it already, I highly recommend frame sliders for the bike. Getting used to the higher seat height was tricky for me at first and I had a really embarrassing tipover. Fortunately the frame sliders did their job and the damage was minimal.

Good luck!

Thank You

Thank you so much for your comments.
I decided to buy a men boot, as i really didn't find anything else appealing to me. I got the Rev'it Air Blend Boots which adds an extra 1 1/2.
I will definitely take you advise regarding the low seat and hopefully that would be enough to be able to flatfoot on a 696 monster.

flatfooted

If I wear the Daytonas in addition to all the bike mods, I can almost flatfoot with both feet. If I wear normal motorcycle boots it's either on the balls of both feet, or 1 foot flat and 1 kind of tiptoe. Hope that makes sense!

Hi,

When you say you are almost flatfooted, you are talking about both feet or just one?

Monster 696

I have a 27" inseam too and ride a Monster 696. I had mine lowered about an inch and had the rear spring swapped out so that it actually compresses when I sit on the bike. I bought the Ducati low seat too. People say the low seat doesn't help too much because it's wider than the stock seat, but to me it seems to make a difference and is more comfortable than the stock seat. In normal motorcycle boots I'm on the balls of my feet. If I wear Daytona Ladystar boots I'm *almost* flat-footed, but the shifter needs to be adjusted to accomodate the super thick soles.
