My Miss America Harley Davidson Super Glide 2006
by Lori Stegle
I rode a 2003 Sportster for 40,000 miles before realizing I needed/wanted a bigger bike. After going to Sturgis on the 883 in the higher elevations, we converted her to a 1200. But couple years later I just wanted a bigger bike and felt confident that I could handle more power. After all, I was riding my husbands Low Rider occasionally! I really wanted a Heritage Softail Classic. I was looking at the local dealer at a nice used one and called the husband over to see what he thought. He said, what about the Super Glide behind it? I hadn't even seen it and man, oh man am I ever glad I got it. First off it's a anniversary bike and they only made 3500 of them. It's Red, White and Blue..how much more American can you get! It's got 6 speeds(1st year models for 6 speeds)and 1450 cc's! It has mid-mount pegs which the Sportster had. The seat is one of the most comfortable that Harley makes. I'm 5'6" and my feet are flat on the ground. It's a Dyna frame. Unfortunately they don't make Low Riders anymore but they continue to make Super Glides. The reach is very comfortable. I have after market slip-on mufflers that have such a sweet rumble. Krome Werks. Detachable wind shield, bags and a detachable sissy bar make this a very comfortable bike to tour on. I added some heated hand grips(mid-west gets chilly in early spring/late fall)and also some highway pegs to stretch out. It has the Stage One kit installed and has some kick! I want to keep this bike as original as possible due to the fact it is a limited edition. I have put 37,000 miles on her so far. I have rode the new Harley Switchback and the Street Glide.....hmmmmm..I like the Street Glide better!
