I have a 05 Yamaha 650 V-Star and just put in a new battery. My bike will turn on but on choke only. I tried several times to start without the choke but it won't turn over unless I am pressing on the start button and at the same time revving it up to catch. Now it has been sitting with the gas on off and I did run it till there was no more gas. Now that it is cooler, I want to ride but no can do. Could it be that it might be gummed or plugged up? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Worked on it today. by: Daniel
By prime, do you mean choke? When i tried starting it i pulled the choke all the way out. Even tried it at half out. Today i put sone seafoam in it. Got a multimeter and checked some of the wires. All are reading that they are getting power. Checked all the fuses. I thought it might be the coil that the plug boot goes to but that was not it either. The odd thing was that when i tried to start it after checking the coil i for got to put the boot back on the plug. When i tried to turn it on it sounded like it ALMOST turned on, but nothing happened when i tried it again. It just crankes but wont turn on. I am at a loss. I am gonna wait to hear more advice from you guys before i take it in. (If i have too) Thank you very much for the suggestions.

no start by: Anonymous
did you put the fuel valve in pri (prime) position? there is probably no fuel in the carbs. The fuel valve is vacuum operated, and if the engine won't start, there is no vacuum, ergo the pri position...

Carbs by: Martinique
Leaving fuel in a bike and letting it sit will gum up the carbs. Trying putting some seafoam in the tank and trying to start it. After some cranking, that might get ya running, but you're still gonna need to get the carbs cleaned.
