My big trip!
by Nana
At age 52 and after a solid two years of riding with a wonderful coach, I took my first long trip. I own a 2009 Victory Kingpin Low - great cruiser with a big enough engine to keep up with the touring models in our group.
Thirteen of us, two women riding their own, our men, several couples, and 3 teenagers in a truck drove from eastern Kansas to Grand Lake, Colorado. It took some time to traverse that distance with that large group, but it was so worth it! We rode Trail Ridge Road through the Rocky Mountain National Forrest 3 times and rode through Devil's Gulch on the way home. Six days and 1,500 miles - there were some difficult times, but I DID IT!
Funny enough, the mountain roads were not the most challenging. Riding east to west in heat and 35 mph cross winds was not fun. Also we got stuck in stop & go traffic in Denver for about 45 minutes. My clutch hand was so sore and numb by the time we drove out of it, I didn't know if I could continue.
Facing those challenges and my fear of heights made me feel like I can do anything! It wouldn't have been possible without the support of my man and the many great and seasoned riders that were on the trip.
