Long distance riding

by Missrider - www.missrider.com
(Boston, Massachusetts)

Last year I rode across America on my 2009 Triumph Bonneville SE by myself. Loved every moment of it but realized that the ride did not quench my thirst for these long rides. So, I was invited to a few events this summer that involve riding extreme distances.

Starting June 23, 2012 (in one more week as I write this entry), I will depart to ride to Toronto Canada alone from Boston, then to Chicago alone, then meeting a group of guys to ride to Panama. The guys want to ride to Panama in 28 days, ouch!!! I will go on that hard ride because these guys are extreme riders, they are the ones that taught me how to do it. Sometimes we have to challenge ourselves, the ride to Panama will test my endurance and mental being.

When I arrive back from Panama in Chicago, I will ride to Sturgis SD for bike week with a group of ladies. I am looking forward to riding with ladies, I don't usually ride with females because they never ride in my area, I live in Massachusetts.

The ride to Panama will be very hard but I can do it.

Follow my journey, I would love some words or encouragement along the way.

2012 Trip

I just read your blog...its great. I can feel your frustration, your sickness and still riding on, and your enjoyment. I don't think I would enjoy leaving the good old US of A. But I admire your determination and adventures.

Ride safe. Hope you make it home in time for Sturgis. You've got some hard riding in front of you.

Good luck. God speed.

Sounds like a wonderful ride. I envy you in that you sometimes ride alone. Makes me nervous when I get too far from home...fear of the unknown I suppose.
I would love to have lady riders as well but do not so I will continue to ride with my hubby. We love long distance rides and think nothing of a 500 or 600 mile day.
Be safe and enjoy.

I remember reading about your ride from Calif. (right?)to Boston. What a feat!

Yes, once it gets in your blood you just want more.

As someone mentioned, I have also on occasion hung my feet from the passenger pegs on those long straight roads. It works well to stretch the legs in a different position.

I have also utilized a seat pad from a kayak to help my flat butt from falling asleep.

I look forward to reading more about your adventures.

Thank you Her-Motorcycle for posting my entry and words of encouragement. Not sure how much I will be able to post on your website as it is harder when one is on the road. Please follow my ride via my website, Twitter or Facebook.

Paulagene, yes, music is a must, I have my Scala rider too.

A real woman!
by: Paulagene

Dear Missrider, Good luck to you on your long distance ride to Panama. It makes me so proud to hear of another woman who rides with the boys and enjoys long distance. I went from NJ to NC on Memorial Day Weekend. It was 615 miles each way and I loved every minute of it. It was my boyfriends first long distance ride and he nearly collapsed at the end with a sore butt and leg cramps. I agree with you that it is not only a physical challange but a mental one as well. I found that putting my feet on my passenger pegs stretched my leg muscles and envigorated my body. I'm sure I looked silly on my Honda VTX but the new position worked wonders. It is also helpful to have music to pass the time. I have my iPod connected via bluetooth to my Scala G4 communication device. It is my dream to ride cross country and I admire that you were able to accomplish that. Again, good luck, good health and good weather!
Paula
