It takes me back....

to when I was 13 with my first bike, riding with my best friend Kate! It takes me from being a married, 47 year old mother of three (nearly grown) boys to being that carefree girl that loved the smell of a two-stroke and the freedom of the (back) road! Without driver's licenses, we could ride miles on logging roads, feeling utterly free and in control of our own destinies! I love how alive and in-tune I feel when riding, so much more aware than driving a car.

takes me back

I love your posting. I too learned to ride off road very young (age 12). We lived on a dirt road and had miles of desert trails & foothills. Several of us neighbor kids had small motorcycles and that was how we spent our time after school.

When I got back on a motorcycle (street only this time) after raising my daughter, getting divorced and moving away, it was so empowering that I was in tears the first ride. You can't explain it to someone who hasn't been there. I feel whole again and back to being empowered and in control of my life.

When people ask why I would like riding I tell them I like being a part of the scenery instead of looking at it out a window.
