How do I find someone to take a motorcycle trip with me?

by Tonna Hughes
(Ree Heights, SD)

I live in rural South Dakota. I am planning a motorcycle tour for next spring. I plan on riding from central South Dakota through Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and back to South Dakota. It will be approximately 3000-3500 miles. I'd like to find another lady rider to ride along with me, for all or part of the trip. Any ideas on how to find that person?

I'm about an hour east of Pierre, or 225 miles east of Sturgis :-). If you think you might be interested in going on a big ride next spring, you are welcome. I'm still in the planning stage, so anyone wanting to tag along can get their suggestions in on the trip route. I'm pretty open to suggestions right now.

Where are you located?

Where in SD are you located Tonna? We live in WY and it is only about two hours to the Black Hills from where we live.

I'm thinking mid to late May. I don't plan on riding more than 300-400 a day max and not every day. If there are cool things to see, I may go allot less on some days.

I'm really flexible and if someone has something they really want to see along the way, I'm game for almost anything. When I get to Lafayette, LA, I want to take a swamp tour and see alligators. I've watched too many swamp people episodes....lol. I saw a program on Hot Springs, Arkansas and the actual hot springs that you soak in. That might be awesome after a long days riding. Other than those two things, I'm still trying to figure out a route. I want to stay off of the interstates and stay on the two lane highways. It would just be fun to have people ride along. They can help me plan the trip to see things they want to see too.

Hmmm, sounds interesting

Although I'm in the NW, just outside of Portland, OR., I want to take a trip all over the U.S. next year. I just took early retirement last week (I'm only 53) and plan on making up for lost time from reconstructive hand surgery in '09 (missed almost an entire year of riding) and all the overtime I worked the past 10 years.

What month(s) are you thinking of starting your trip? How many miles per day do you envision riding, on average. I used to be able to ride 400-500 mile days but arthritis has curtailed that somewhat.

Anyway, when you have more details of your plans keep us all informed!

Love to have the company. Trip route is flexible.

I ride a HD 883 Superlow. I've not taken a trip more than 300 miles in one day, but figure its now or never. I am flexible on the route, but I do want to stop at Branson, MO, Hot Springs, Arkansas, Natchitoches, LA, and the Lafayette, LA. Then not sure what way back to the north. I'm still thinking about that route. I was planning on riding into Minnesota, then dropping south by Albert Lee. I'm 57, retired, and have been riding motorcycles since I turned 50. I just think that someone riding along would be more fun, but I'm going to do it one way or another. The more the merrier. If you are interested and have someplace you'd want to see, my route is not set in stone yet. You can email me direct at tonna.hughes@gmail.com.

road trip

hmm, sounds tempting. I'm just south of the twin cities. What do you ride? Have you done a road trip before? And I don't mean that as an insult! Do you have a route or just winging it?
