I see you already have been given the great idea of taking the MSF Beginner Course.. You can check out the Tennessee gov website for the info for the classes...

Here is a link to them for your use.. http://www.tn.gov/safety/mrep.shtml

I used this to find instructors in my area in W TN. Hope you find a class that will benefit you..

Cami, I agree with Sapphire. You should take a beginners riding course. That is the best way to learn to ride. Our husbands/boyfriends/friends may have a ton of patience and experience, but it's still better to learn from professionals who do this all the time. Then after you pass the class, I would suggest spending time in a parking lot doing a lot of practice before heading out into heavy traffic. Good luck!

It is not a good idea to learn from someone who is not a MSF instructor because you could pick up on their bad riding habits. Take a basic rider course instead. I had no riding experience and was able to take the class and pass, earning my motorcycle endorsement for my license. I've learned many valuable safety tips that I have already applied to my learning experience on my new bike. They go over the basics, choosing riding gear, riding in different weather conditions, riding in heavy traffic, encountering obstacles in the road, and much more.
