2000 Suzuki intruder 1400

Installed new battery. Ran fine 1x. 1 week later I started and started backfiring or rough idle. All lights started flickering and then all went dead. No power. Any ideas?

Have you checked up on a few other things on the big such as.... I'm a novice... but I did some poking around on the web and a few others have listed this a an possible. But it could just be something up with your battery itself.. and its not enough juice for your bike.. or that you need a battery charger.

Checked valves
New fuel filter
Cleaned fuel pump filter and injector

Throttle rocker might help
by: Chandra S

***caveat*** I am not speaking from my own experience, because I am just learning how to ride - but my husband has put one of these on all of his bikes and says it really helps a lot with control and hand fatigue on long rides.

Handlebars Shakes

When I am driving at a constant speed like 50 mph and I decelerate, or abruptly come off the gas, the handlebars begin to shake. When acceleration is resumed the shakes go away. What's wrong??

I know this sounds crazy but check your rear spokes for looseness / tightness.

It could be you need a new tire.or your tire needs balanced,or somethings wrong with the forks.I would get it checked out.

250 Ninja
by: Dr. Sparkle

That's a tough one to answer. The Ninja 250 was one of my first bikes and a very nimble bike to learn on. I had inspirations of highway riding, and every time I got on, I immediately got off because I felt like I was being blown around. Let's just say I only owned that bike for 4 months if that. I weigh more than you and still felt like I was being blown around. If you are looking to learn, I would opt for a 500. It's just as nimble and considering you won't have it long, the resale on them is pretty good. Good luck!

Windshield or not?

by Noelle S.
(Freehold, NJ)

Hi Ladies,
I have gotten such great advice on this site, i thought I'd come here for my newest "issue". I am trading in my Honda Shadow 600 tomorrow for a 2012 Shadow Spirit 750. As excited as I am, Im still nervous. I feel like I have outgrown my 600 but I'm wondering if it will take me long to get used to the new bigger bike.

Also I'm looking into a windshield, which I didnt have on my 600. Im hoping to ride much more and longer trips. So far I think I like the idea of a detachable and a midlength where I can see over it. Let me know what you ladies think. I love hearing you experience and suggestions...
Thanks and PL&H

Most people I know that get a windshield, never turn back. Especially for distance riding, it really helps with fatigue.

Get a detachable winshield
by: Fishsticks

Hi,

I rode my Shadow without a windshield. But now have a Memphis Shades windshield. I love it. It keeps the bugs off me and keeps me warmer while it is still not quite summer. It can be detached in seconds if I want to go without. I highly recommend it.

can a 5.2 150 pound lady handle a heritage?

Is there any 5.2 women or shorter that ride heritages out there? I love that bike but am a little afraid of the weight.

It depends
by: Sparkle

If you are an experienced rider, I say go for it. I'm 5'4" and just bought a 2010 Road Glide but my bike before it was a 900 Vulcan. I felt I needed to move up because it didn't have the comfort for long hauls like I wanted. If you are a newer rider, you may want to start smaller until you are comfortable. Either way, always be mindful of where and how you park because it's a little more difficult pushing around a bigger bike. Good luck.

Short Heritage rider
by: Anonymous

Carol,
It's a softail so it's lower. I'm almost 5' and have ridden a heritage, a deluxe, even a road king but I had to wear 4 inch stack shoes to ride it. Right now I'm riding a softail springer and looking for a deluxe.

It's not really the riding that is a problem it's the backing up, so just think ahead and ride safe!

Why limit yourself?
by: Judy

Why do so many new women riders limit themselves to the heaviest, most ponderous, slow-steering machines out there? I understand about the seat height, but there are several much smaller/lighter Cruiser style bikes of various makes that would be far more suitable for someone concerned about the heft of a bike.

You can always go bigger later. Don't make it so hard on yourself. In addition, there are other styles you might consider looking at, that are lightweight and very, very new rider friendly, like the dual-purpose Yamaha TW200, or the new Suzuki 250 Standard.
