2011 Sportster SuperLow a Perfect Fit!!

October Ride!

As a brand new rider and motorcycle owner, I love my 2011 Sportster! It's a new version this year, SuperLow with a 4.5 L tank and a pretty comfortable seat...the real test for many hours on the road will be when my husband and I go to Florida in February and travel to the Keys.

I have put on 2900km since purchasing my bike August 28th, and my tail bone does not get sore. This was a huge issue for me when I was a passenger with my husband. My reach is great for both my arms and legs. I have put on a windshield, which has made riding on the highways so much better! This alone has boosted my confidence! I also added an engine guard that has highway pegs mounted on to it. I love looking at the "bling" options for decking her out. I will still be adding a few more pretty yet practical items to her for road trips too ;)

Superlow looks like the bike for me!
by: RogueW

Hi! I'm am super excited about getting my permit and endorsement soon! I'm currently studying for the written test and plan to take that within the next couple weeks if at all possible. Went to an HD dealer last night with my boyfriend who brought in his FatBob for routine maintenance and I checked out the bikes there. I realllllyyyy wanted the WideGlide, but the salesperson was honest with me and said that for a begginer, that bike is really too much to handle. I'm also 5'2" so I'd have to have it lowered as well. He suggested the Sportster Superlow and though I'm not hip on the style as much, it's not a bad looking bike. Better yet, it fit beautifully. I will get the engine guard and highway pegs added, as my knees will start to bother me being so close. But I am soooo suped!!! Cannot wait to get started and out on the road. So glad I found this website too!

Take care and safe rides everyone!

A great fit!
by: AHope

I just finished the Motorcycle safety course a month ago. I have since been on my husbands Superglide and a friends Honda Nighthawk 750. This past weekend I went down to the Harley store and rented a Superlow and absolutely loved it! I am only 5'3 and this is the most comfortale bike ive been on. Every other bike I felt like I was stretching and for a beginner I really felt I needed to be comfortable while I got used to riding. We live in the Black Hills of South Dakota so we are amongst bikers all the time during the summer. If you have a local Harley dealership nearby I would highly suggest renting a bike you are interested in. They usually have a local discount!

2011 Superlow
by: Anonymous

My Boyfriend just bought my 2011 superlow (merlot & black) this past Monday. The same day I got my permit. I have been riding on it at the local school with my BF's assistance. I have never ridden before... I'm 49 and I love it. I'm taking the safety course next weekend and hopefully getting my license at the same time. I'm nervous, excited and scared all at the same time. I'm very happy this is the bike I got, I feel very comfortable... but again, just learning. I have been riding on the back of my BF's bike for a long time. He currently just bought a Screamin Eagle CVO Street Glide (autum haze). He sold his 1990 Heritage Softail (Custom and well taken care of) and bought my bike for me. I'm a very lucky girl but I'm so happy to be riding on my own... can't wait to get out on the street but want to wait till I take the class. I love this website and so happy to find people with the same bike as me :-) I've always admired women riders and now I'm one myself! God bless everyone and ride safe.

I had my h<3 set on the super low
by: Misbehaved

Well i had my heart set on that super low. After riding on a permit for 2 years i finally got my license on mothers day by taking a 1 day riders edge safety class. I learned so much in 1 day and got way more confidence in certain skills. Like quick stops and using my rear break. Leaning more without fear on sharp corners. Went to the dealer to finance a new super low and they didn't have one! He showed me a used 2008 Nightster the xl1200N. It felt a bit large and intimidating compared to my Buell blast. I really didn't think i could handle such a large bike. He told me to test drive it told me if I've been riding for 2 years I can handle it im not a beginner. So i went for it! The forward foot controls were odd and I had to reach for the bars I felt hunched over. But I loved the bike and got a sweet deal on it! It only had 3400 miles on it. I put a reach seat on it and handlebar risers its perfect. Once I got used to it I didn't need the reach seat! It took me 4 weeks to stop reaching for the mid foot controls. I put on a power commander, a removable sissy bar and have a stripper seat as a 2 up seat which I love got that and rear passenger foot pegs which I got cheap off Craigslist. Purchased a detachable hd windshield (they now make a lock for it) it came with the short shot Vance and Hines pipes and my ride is super sweet! I think my sales guy was right if I went with the 883 superlow id have grown out of it too quick. I think the best thing i did was ride the Buell blast for 2 years and get experience and make my stupid mistakes. Like stalling, forgetting to put the kick stand down, dropping it in a parking lot turning because I didn't give it enough gas! i got 150 bucks more than i paid for it 2 years ago so id say i got my moneys worth. start small and then build the confidence. Don't be afraid of taking the leap to a big bike when your ready. I'm going to Colorado for vacation and I'm going to rent a softail! Never be overconfident is key. In the riders edge class one of the guys first bikes was a Roadking he really struggled and barely got his license i heard in the first class. There were guys in the class that had been riding for 20 or 30 years. In the end of the class I scored second highest in points on the road test. There's no ego in safety. So whatever you pick for a bike remember it can be modified just be ready to handle the extra weight, lean more it wont tip and if your small like me never park down hill and stay away from speed bumps in parking lots with such a low bike! The Nightster is only 25 inches for seat height. Its lower than my 500cc Buell Blast and the progressive shocks are adjustable too it came with those. The best deals are on a used bike then spend the extra money and customize it.

Hard Bags for 2011 Superlow
by: Vicki

I got my 2011 superlow in September. What a fantastic bike. Very easy to handle and very comfortable. I have added the windshield, engine guards and highway pegs, but would sure like to add hard saddle bags. I also love the idea of a blingy air filter cover. Can anyone give me ideas of where to get these- especially the hard bags- I want to get custom color (birch white and sedona orange) to match the bike.

Thanks

Got one today!!
by: Coco

I had an accident on a Deluxe this week flew off hit my chin, etc. That bike was way too much for me as a brand spankin' new rider so my husband marched me right back to Harley and made me get the 883 Superlow 2011 Sportster. Added engine guards, hard bags, Screamin' Eagles and now I am going to look for the rhinestone thingy too!

My confidence is shot but I know I will do much better on this smaller bike. I am 5'4 and I just know I can handle this bike. Any tips would be so welcomed!

As soon as it arrives, I am heading for a parking lot to practice!

11' Superlow
by: Roxy11

I got my birch white/sedona 09/10. I put on 2400 in just a couple months. I recently had a custom barrel bag, seat and fork bag made, in a cheyenne color. Toss on V&H short shots, air cleaner and fuel pak. She is one mean bitch.

As far as discounts you have to play the dealerships against each other and they don't discount them unless you ask. Tell them Dealer A is less than Dealer B, beat em or I will buy somewhere else. Take someone with you, they will try and screw you with warranties and service plans.

Good luck!

No Discount
by: Caroline

Hi, Misbehaved! I didn't get a discount from the dealership...I did buy the black model (the lowest priced one) and have since added my own fun stuff and very practical accessories. Engine guard with highway pegs, a windshield and hard saddle bags. I also got a new rhinestone air filter cover!! That is purely for the BLING! Ride free.

Super low super girly super awesome!
by: Misbehaved

Thanks for the post regarding the 2011 super low the first time I set eyes on one then sat on it I fell in love!! I'm thinking of upgrading ever since I saw it in the showroom in September. I'm 5'2" and no modifications necessary a perfect fit. Nice sized gas tank. Pearly white is super girly, I love it! Now I need to get financed the only obstacle. I am getting that bike in my driveway some how. I never bought a new bike before is it like buying a car do they discount them?

By the way...
by: Caroline

Any ladies out there who live in the Ottawa/Kanata area who are looking for the occasional riding buddy?? I always go riding with my husband, Jim, which is always my first choice, but there are times that it doesn't work out for the two of us and I would rather ride with someone than by myself. Love to hear from you...Caroline

Love my 2011 Sportster Superlow
by: Lizabeth

I am glad to see how much people like the new Superlow. This is my second bike--I own a 2009 Heritage Classic. I saw it and immediately fell in love. Within hours of my first glance, it was paid for. I am 5'10", so I had front pegs put on, which makes for a comfortable ride. I added Vance and Hines Short Shots, cutout grips, pegs, and mirrors and picked it up a week later. When the Harley guy started it up, it sounded like a big bike and I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was mine making all that noise! Enjoy your Harley, keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up :)

Re: Luggage
by: Caroline

Hi...the picture of my Sportster and I also has my husbands bike in the background. It's his bike that has the saddle bags (I don't have any yet) and at a closer glance, it does look as though there is a bag on the back.

Speaking of luggage/bags, I would love feedback as to what kinds and styles all you ladies have for traveling on your bikes. I will be mounting bags this winter and I am looking for great prices and looks too.

Thanks everyone...I hope to meet some of you on the road!

Sportster
by: Sandra E.

I traveled from Austin, TX to Wisconsin and around Lake Michigan last June on a 2008 Sportster 1200L. Let me tell you we made 600+ miles in one day! and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Enjoy your bike and have a safe trip.

Sporty
by: nie

It's awesome to hear about the windshield, the engine guard and the pegs...I too bought a naked Harley..lol that's what I use to call mine. But now I have all but the pegs. Seems like I can't reach the pegs and you are so right about the windshield, it makes soo much difference...and yes its a boost shot. Good luck on the trip to Florida!!
