2000 Suzuki 12S Bandit

by Donna Rees
(Sacramento, CA, USA)

Great bike, great roads!

Great bike, great roads!

Two years ago, my husband wrecked his Suzuki DL1000 V Strom and found a new bike to replace it with, a Suzuki Bandit.

He couldn't go pick it up as we were living in Reno and the bike was located in LA, and his broken arm hadn't yet healed. Well, he asked if I would fly down and pick it up *for* him! No problem, hon!

I picked up the bike on a Sunday and proceeded to make an 800 mile/2 day trip out of my ride home and by the time I had arrived, the Bandit was mine. ;)

It all worked out when he took my previous bike, a Triumph Sprint and traded it in on a 05 Yamaha FZ1. Then everyone was content!

The Bandit is TOTALLY my favorite bike ever. I truly can't imagine being more pleased or having more fun!

Solo Riding...
by: Demenshea

Hello Laura

Check on my website/blog for many solo rides and info regarding riding alone for safety and contentment.

www.demenshea.com

I am pretty much a solo rider and can't speak enough to the benefits of riding alone. You are free to stop when you desire, you can stop for photos without holding up others, you can set your pace (which you should do anyway), you can feel the joy of total autonomy, the list goes on...

As to problems, I have encountered some mechanical things, but carry MoTow, a towing service offered by the AMA, I also carry some cash and open credit for emergencies. I ride with health insurance, just in case. I figure this pretty much covers most cases. I have never been afraid of the people I have met on the road, nor other rider/drivers. I ride with an open mind.

There are no hard and fast rules regarding solo riding. Have you ridden where you live by yourself? It is like that, only bigger. ;)

Just do it...as they say and see if you like it.

800 Mile Trip
by: Laura

I have been contemplating a 300 mile trip to NY to see family, but am scared to take the trip alone. I would ride during the day, but haven't any idea on how to ride alone? Did you ride alone the whole way and did you have any problems? Any info you can pass along would be greatly appreciated!!
